Overview

Nestled in the heart of Five Dock on Great North Road, Mr Ping’s Five Dock offers a vibrant taste of Asian cuisine that seamlessly blends traditional flavors with modern twists. This modest yet inviting eatery specializes in a diverse menu ranging from hearty broths to tantalizing street food staples, making it a favored spot among locals craving authentic Asian fare.

The restaurant shines brightest with its signature dishes such as the rich and comforting Chicken Broth, perfectly suited for those seeking warmth and depth in their meal. The Salad Bowl with Roast Pork Belly balances fresh greens and succulent meat, creating a satisfying harmony of textures and tastes. Fans of noodles will find the BBQ Pork Noodle Soup and the succulent Singapore Noodles—a delicate vermicelli stirred with pork and prawn—especially notable for their authentic seasoning and freshness.

For those looking to sample something lighter yet equally flavorful, the inventive BBQ Chicken and Ginger Shallot Banh Mi offers a delightful fusion bite, combining crisp bread with tender marinated meats and vibrant flavors. Sweet tooths are not left wanting, with the Matcha Cream Puffs and airy Mango Pancakes delivering indulgent yet unobtrusive finishes to the meal. The Bubble Waffle brings a playful element, pairing well with the sophisticated ice cream selection praised by visitors for its smooth texture and creative flavors.

The ambiance is unpretentious—modestly sized indoor seating provides a quiet, relaxed environment ideal for casual lunches or low-key dinners. Given the limited space, it caters best to smaller groups and individuals who appreciate quality over formality. The eatery’s layout and vibe suggest an audience that values authentic Asian flavors, casual dining, and reasonably priced, generous portions.

Customer feedback emphasizes the excellence of the roast meats, particularly the Peking Duck and roast pork, which are considered standout indulgences. The ability to customize bowls and soups is another highlight, appealing to diners who enjoy tailoring their meals to personal preference. However, some note the use of disposable packaging and cutlery for dine-in as a drawback, reflecting a growing awareness of sustainability expectations within the contemporary dining scene.

Overall, Mr Ping’s Five Dock presents a compelling destination for those seeking a varied Asian menu that honors tradition while embracing approachable dining. Its combination of standout dishes, flavor depth, and a welcoming neighborhood vibe make it a cherished local gem worth revisiting.

This has become my new favorite spot for roast pork! Amazing food with big portion and of course reasonable price. The place is not big, only few dining tables inside. However, they provide various different Asian menus from chinese duck to bahn mi. I tried their laksa noodle with roast pork and bahn mi with chicken for dine in. They both are delicious! I also have tried they roast pork and roast dock both I bought via uber eats. Such a delicacy! Recommended

Really good place for ice cream with lots of really good and fun flavours. Ice cream is really smooth, and all flavours tried have been great. Miso popcorn caramel and jersey milk are some of the favourites.

The ability to customise the bowls and soups is great, both of ours were excellent. The rice noodles we'll get plain next time (or with prawn or pork) instead of with the fried doughnut inside. The sales assistant seemed like she really didn't want to be there but everyone has bad days. The big letdown is that they exclusively use single-use bowls/packaging. The fresh bowl came in a biodegradable bowl but everything else was in plastic bowls/containers which is (imo) not acceptable any more for dine-in. The chopsticks are also disposable bamboo ones. So a switch to reusable cutlery and crockery is highly recommended

Mr Ping’s is now under different owners. The gelato has gone which is disappointing but the Chinese food is great. The best in the Five Dock-Abbotsford-Drummoyne area. Dinning is casual and small as it ever was. They serve yummy Peking Duck and Red Pork a must try. Portions are big. They continue to do Banh Mi which is now even better.

Just tried this place for takeaway and loved it! We’ll definitely come back to try it again! Wontons were really quite good - each one had a good chunk of nice prawn inside, plus the meat filling was great too! The handmade wheat noodles were nice and healthy, and the soup was delicious. Quite a bit of bok choy too. Their roast pork banh mi was unique. The fried shallots and mustard sauce were excellent! Lots of pork, spring onion and veg. However, I would have preferred it with the brown pate that other stores normally put in - that ingredient is so delicious!
